During the ceremony, Mahesh Corporation chairman Mahesh Fernando received a blessing from the Venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera, and presented the monk with a sacred offering for his temple.

He met King Devanampiyatissa of Sri Lanka atop the Mihintale rock, a landmark 12km east of Anuradhapura, a meeting of minds that paved way for the establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. SRI LANKA BIGGER THAN INDIA? THAT’S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ON THIS THOUSAND-YEAR-OLD ARAB TRADING MAP! Arabs were trading with Sri Lanka and the world as they knew it 1,000 years ago—and they made maps to guide their seafarers and maritime explorers. One such was drawn by Al-Idrisi’s Tabula Rogeriana in 1154 AD (pictured above)—and appears to show Sri Lanka as being much bigger than neighbouring India! This map was created based on the reports of Arab merchants who had travelled across the world. It was, at the time, the most accurate and extensive map of the world. Tabula may have cheated a bit, because it closely resembles a much earlier ‘world’ map drawn by Ptolemy in 150 AD (pictured below), which was the first to add longitudinal and latitudinal lines. The Ministry of Crab in Colombo is not only one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned restaurants, it is one of only two to appear on the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list. Both are owned by Sri Lankan-Japanese chef Dharshan Munidasa (pictured right).

TOP SRI LANKA RESTAURATEUR PUTS COLOMBO’S MINISTRY OF CRAB TOP OF THE MENU IN ASIA The Ministry of Crab in Colombo is not only one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned restaurants, it is one of only two to appear on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Both are owned by Sri Lankan-Japanese chef Dharshan Munidasa. The second, Nihonbashi, was actually opened first, 22 years ago, and is equally renowned, not only for its food but also for its Japanese ambience. But it is Ministry of Crab that caught the eye of Strait Times of Singapore food writer Rachel Loi, who described 46-year-old Munidasa’s journey from computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University to top Asian restaurateur.
