SRI LANKA TOURISM UNDERPINNED BY AMAZING BIODIVERSITY MARKED BY UN DAY OF CELEBRATION Tourism and Sri Lanka’s amazing bio-diversity, from mighty blue whales, elephants and leopards to exotic birds and butterflies, will be celebrated by the United Nations on May 2. The UN’s International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), with the theme ‘Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism’, coincides with its International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Environment Lanka is showcasing both events on its website, which notes that “biodiversity, at the level of species and ecosystems, provides an important foundation for many aspects of tourism”.
