Sri Lanka plans $300m high-end southern eco and nature tourism zone | Pledge Holidays Travel Blog

SRI LANKA PLANS $300M HIGH-END SOUTHERN ECO AND NATURE TOURISM ZONE A US$300 million high-end tourism zone in southern Sri Lanka is being planned by a government anxious to capitalize on the island’s rapidly growing global popularity as a holiday destination. The Sunday Times reports that Dedduwa (pictured above) and Akurala (below) in the Galle district are ripe for development for eco and nature tourism, with a canal from Dedduwa to Koggala on the drawing board as a prelude to developing 14 nearby islands. A conceptual plan earmarks boating, fishing, bird watching, cycling, camping, golf, nature or village walks, agro-tourism and water sports as particular experiences and activities.
