The DailyFT, Sri Lanka’s business and finance newspaper, reports that Sri Lanka Tourism has concluded its wide range of road shows in Eastern Europe, including Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary. Lanka Hospitals in Colombo has become the first healthcare provider in Sri Lanka to achieve international medical tourism accreditation from the US-based Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA). Colombo is ranked fourth behind Osaka, Chengdu, and Abu Dhabi in the 2016 Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index, in which Asia dominates both the global top 10 and top 10 fastest-growing destination cities. Colombo Page reports that a project to ensure the long-term preservation of Galle Fort, one of Sri Lanka’s eight World Heritage Sites, is being supported by the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation. HospitalityNet reports prior to the upcoming Asia Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference (AHTIC) in Colombo that Sri Lanka “is now officially one of the fastest growing tourist markets in the world”.
